The citizens and leadership of the City of Rochelle have a commendable history of vision and the progressive spirit and commitment to expand infrastructure and improve services to the community. With this vision Rochelle Municipal Utilities (RMU) was created, initially to generate and distribute electrical power. Affordable electrical power was critical to the growth of the Rochelle community during the Industrial Age and, abundant power continues to be a vital resource for maintaining the economic vitality of our community for the future.

With a vision of the future, City leadership recognized the need for advanced telecommunication services in 1999. The City of Rochelle planned and installed a fiber optic network to serve RMU and to provide subscriber broadband access to the Internet through RMU.Net, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) owned and operated by RMU. RMU also provides high-speed telecommunication for the Police, Fire, Public Safety, City Hall, Hospital, Schools and approximately 100 businesses connected to the optical fiber network.

RMU's customer service is the force behind our competitive rates and abundant supply of electricity and water. Our quality services areas sets to homeowners and businesses alike, and whether it be at the office or at home, we are here to serve. Our Customer Service representatives are available to serve you from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m. Monday through Friday.
