Rochelle historically has been the center of culture and social contacts for the surrounding area. Memorial Park and Spring Lake were the earliest areas to be developed into parks by the City of Rochelle. In 1928, Memorial Park was the community’s summer gathering place. Its natural growth of trees and grasses were changed little from nature’s original design.
With the addition of several City parks in the 50s and 60s, in August 1966, the citizens chose to establish a Park District, a separate governing body, to coordinate recreational activities and maintain the park system. The Park District has now grown into an 18 park system area totaling over 529 acres.
The Park District is committed to providing exceptional parks and recreational opportunities, offering a wide variety of activities for families and individuals. The opportunities include volleyball, fitness classes, karate, swimming lessons, scrap booking, basketball, youth tumbling, golf, pee wee basketball, dance classes, basket weaving, gymnastics, summer day camp, equestrian classes and so much more!
