Rochelle’s Elementary Schools consist of Rochelle Elementary District 231and St. Paul Lutheran Parochial School.
District 231 consists of four buildings that house Grade 1 through 5, and a Middle School for Grades 6, 7, and 8. Full-day kindergarten, early child-hood classes, and an at-risk pre-kindergarten class are also provided.
The District also provides English as a Second Language, counseling, speech, art, music, physical education, special education services, and a complete computer network in the schools which allows for high speed internet access and software utilization. Many enrichment activities, including field trips, assemblies and live performances are a frequent part of the curriculum.
District # 231 annually creates and implements a School Improvement Plan designed to improve instruction and student performance in the areas of reading, language, math, the social sciences, science and the fine arts.
The Middle School utilizes core and encore interdisciplinary teams to deliver educational services to the students. A wide variety of inter-scholastic activities are offered for 7th and 8th Grade students, including Student Council, Natural Helpers (a peer counseling group), basketball, soccer, track, volleyball, wrestling, cheerleading, and pom pom. The Middle School also provides an extensive intramural activity program for students in Grades 6, 7, and 8.
Each building within District 231 has an active Parent Teacher Organization. Information regarding these organizations may be obtained by contacting each individual school. All parents are invited and encouraged to participate. To contact District # 231, call the Central School Office, 562-8251, to discuss enrollment procedures for Grades K-5. Middle School parents should contact the Middle School at 562-7997 for enrollment information. School handbooks are available at each building and include detailed information regarding school policies and procedures.
St. Paul Lutheran School offers an accredited and positive Christian environment together with the highest academic achievement to provide a valuable education for students in Pre-School through 8th Grade. Christian values are taught and the students excel academically in an average class size of 15 students with dedicated Christian teachers.
The Core Curriculum includes Religion, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, History, Geography, Science, PE, Fine Arts, and Computer Education. Extracurricular activities include a 5th through 8th Grade sport program, Handbell Choir, and Yearbook Committee. St Paul Lutheran School also has an active Parent-Teacher Organization. Financial aid is available, as is an Illinois State Income Tax Credit of $500 for tuition.
