It is the mission of the Rochelle Tourism & Visitors Association to preserve and promote the inherent characteristics of the Hub City’s highways, railways, businesses, and quality of life.
The Historic Transcontinental Lincoln Highway, a National Scenic Byway, runs right through the heart of Rochelle in the downtown business district, one of the very few nostalgic downtowns left that is alive and well, providing travelers with an experience in American small town heritage seldom seen today. The downtown businesses consist of various specialty shoppes, antique shoppes, and the Hub Theatre which has survived as a movie theatre on Lincoln Highway since opening in 1930.
Rochelle’s newest historical attraction is the refurbished Standard Oil Filling Station, built in 1918 by Standard Oil of Indiana, and restored in 2001 to its original 1918 design, right down to an original pump and equipment. This historic building serves as the Rochelle Visitor Center which provides access to information on Northern Illinois.
The Rochelle Visitor Center is open year round Wednesday through Saturday and on Mondays from 11am – 4pm and on Sundays from Noon – 4pm. For further information, call (815) 562.7031 or visit the Rochelle Tourism & Visitor Association website at www.rochelletourism.com.
